Joseph Russell, MD.

Education & Professional Training

Dr. Joseph Russell is a Charleston native who grew up on James Island. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Charleston Southern University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and received both the Outstanding Chemistry and Outstanding Biology Graduate awards.

He then obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and graduated Summa Cum Laude, ranking first in his class.  At graduation, he also received the Dean’s Award, recognizing his exemplary performance during all four years of medical school.

Dr. Russell continued his training by completing a five-year residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.  During each year of his residency, he achieved the highest scores possible on the national standardized exams that test knowledge of all areas of the specialty.

Board Certification

Dr. Russell is board-certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He is also a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeryand the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.

Professional Background

His otolaryngology-head & neck surgery interests include endoscopic sinus surgery, septoplasty, nasal valve correction, and balloon sinuplasty.

family life

Dr. Russell and his wife, Ruby, have three sons. They are currently enjoying all of the adventures these three rambunctious little boys bring to their lives. In their free time, they enjoy family outings to Charlestown Landing, Magnolia Gardens, the South Carolina Aquarium, the beaches, and just about anywhere with a salt marsh and water nearby.
